East Meets West Shop

East Meets West Shop

The East Meets West Shop is sponsored by ZaCSA and we offer authentic, vintage Japanese Kimonos, Obis and gifts. All proceeds are donated back into the community. The shop is run by ZaCSA volunteers like you. Our volunteer manager and buyer spend many hours every week in the shop and out shopping in Japan to ensure East Meets West has the great things you want to buy.

The shop's open year round from 1030-1430 every Tuesday and August - May on Thursdays, from 1600-1830.

FOR THE LATEST INVENTORY and EMW Shop news, see the Shop's NEW Facebook page www.facebook.com/eastmeetswest.zacsa.

Also check the CALENDAR for hours and special Discounts! On the calendar, click on hyperlinked text to see what the discount is for that day or for more information.

Volunteer at the Shop

We could really use some volunteers if you think you would like to help out. We need help in the shop with assisting customers as well as labeling and presenting merchandise. It does not require a lot of your time. Whatever amount of time you can volunteer would be great! Please stop by the shop if you would like to help. New this year - ZaCSA even offers to pay for childcare if needed - ask our shop manager for details.

We are located directly behind the Dry Cleaners (see map). It's a little tricky to find but well worth it!

Come in and we'll show you how we've used the Japanese Obis... We've got enough ideas for a show on HGTV and we're eager to share!

More About What We Sell

East Meets West Shop

Japanese Ranma

Among the many treasures in the EMW shop are Japanese ranma or transom. Ranmas are traditionally used in a Japanese room between the sliding room divider and the ceiling to ensure the easy flow of air from room to room. In Western decor ranma make beautiful horizontal or vertical accents in almost any room. Japanese ranma range from the elegant slatted thousand-rib design to remarkable deeply carved landscapes. Come in to check out what Ranma they have in EMW!

Kokeshi Dolls

Kokeshi dolls are simple, wooden dolls from the Northern Honshu - Tohoku region. Most dolls have neither arms nor legs, but a large head and a cylindrical body.

The origin of kokeshi dolls is not known, but there are several theories. One believes that people specializing in woodwork began making the dolls in the winter months to sell as souvenirs to visitors who came to visit the hot springs in the Tohoku area. A kokeshi doll will make great souvenir of your time in Japan!
